The day started at 6am to make the most of the daylight hours. After breakfast, the team started with a safety briefing and a stretch and flex.
Then we broke into smaller groups. Some worked on inventory and others worked on erecting scaffolding.
Once the scaffolding was high enough, the towers were lifted up onto the pedestals with a lot of strength and teamwork.
Once the towers were lifted on both sides, safety lines were attached to the top of the towers to either hold down points or trees.
Another group worked on getting the suspenders ready. This included cutting them to length. Measure, mark, measure, cut, measure!
Then a suspender jig was set up to bend the smooth bars into shape. After a lot of test bends, the process was finalized and an action plan was ready to go for the next day.
Concrete was also mixed to fill in around the tower pin at the base.
A lot of work was done on the first day and the team all now know how it is to work in the high temperatures of Panama!
