The work is rolling along nicely! Today the team had a little fun!
The restraint cables were tightened and now the bridge looks like a bridge! The suspender assemblies are lined up better.
The scaffolding was then taken down and a safety line was attached to the towers. The safety line runs over the top and allows the team to safely cross the bridge to attach the deck planks. A retractable lanyard is hooked up to the line and it allows workers to move freely. It catches the worker only if their fall quickly yanks the line.
It is always important to take a water break during work in the hot temperatures of Panama.
For the deck plank installation, the suspenders have to be held in place while the bolts are attached. The team started off using the limited portion of the bridge that is close to the ground to practice and come up with a plan.
The weather today was sweltering and humid. Tomorrow morning, the team will finish the deck screwing when energy levels are high and the temperature is (slightly) lower.
